Review Summary
Dain has found acceptance at Thirst hold and a father in the chevard Lord Oldfrey, who tells Dain that he wants to adopt him as his son and heir. This adoption only requires the formalization of the king to be legalized but this all changes on the way to the capital city of Savroix, when the party is attacked by believers of Gant and nonkind and Lord Oldfrey is injured and dies. With the question of adoption still left in question Dain is forced to continue on to the capitial instead of escorting Oldfrey back home to be buried. Dain manages to pass himself off as a knight at the tourney held for the king's birthday in order to speak with the king and defeats Prince Gavril after speaking with the king to close the tourney. The king takes a liking to Dain and invites him to hunt with him and on that trip king Verence tells Dain that he knows he is the lost prince Faldain of Nether and gives him a choice of remaining Chevard of Thirst or giving it up to pursue his crown. Dain is outmanuver and Dain reluctantly decides to remain Chevard. The party then returns to Savroix where the Prince and Dain get into a fight and in the confusion afterwards Lady Pheresa drinks a posion that was meant for Dain and falls ill. In order to save Dain's life for assaulting the Prince, Verence revels Dains identity and Dain proposes to seek out a cure for the posion that is slowly killing the maid.
