Review Summaries
"Alex Gardner (Dennis Quaid), a young man with strong psychic abilities, is enlisted to participate in a special research program at a sleep clinic. The clinic treats sleeping disorders, particularly nightmares. The program helps psychics to enter people's dreams and help them deal with whatever it is that frightens them. The research is government-funded; Bob Blair (Christopher Plummer), the government man supervising the program, is very supportive of it. When one of the patients dies from a heart attack in his sleep, Alex begins to suspect that someone is using the program in the wrong way. One of the psychics must be entering the dreams and doing directly the opposite from what their job is: frightening the patient and reinforcing their nightmares. His suspicions are soon confirmed. When the president (Eddie Albert) is admitted to the clinic, suffering from nuclear war nightmares, Alex learns the true reason of Bob Blair's enthusiasm for the program: there is a plot to kill the president using the dream-entering machine. Alex finds out who the traitor-psychic is and chases after him into the president's dream."
