| Review Summary |
Paul, a prison guard is in charge of death row, also referred to as 'the green mile'.
One day, they get a new prisoner, a huge black man accused of raping and killing two young girls, but he is innocent.
The prisoner, John, has magical healing powers. He heals a bad urinary infection plagueing Paul. He helps a fellow prisoner by breathing new life back into his pet mouse killed by Percy, a mean guard.
Paul's friend, the warden, Hal's wife is dying of inoperable cancer.
Paul and fellow guards trust John enough to take him to Hal's home to heal his wife.
Paul is conflicted about executing John, but John assures him that it's alright.
With a touch of his hand, John shows Paul what really happened to the girls and how the world is full of so much love and hate and how he's ready to be at peace.
After John's execution Paul and all of his guards either quit or transferred.
When John touched Paul he transferred some magic to him. Paul lived to over 100 years old watching family and friends die off.

Set in 1930's Alabama, The Green Mile tells the story of five wardens (including Tom Hanks) and their boss Al(James Cromwell) working on Death Row, whose lives are changed by the arrival of 8 foot tall prisoner John Coffey (Clarke Duncan) who, despite his loving, childlike nature, has been wrongly accused of raping and murdering two little girls. But Paul Edgecomb (Hanks) and his friends discover that John is more than what he seems as he uses his miraculous healing powers to help Paul with a urinary infection, bring a fellow inmate's pet mouse back to life after evil, stuck up warden Percy (Hutchison) steps on it, cure Al's wife, who has a life threatening tumour, and reveal the real killer of the little girls... but is it too late to save him from the electric chair?
