Review Summary
THE VISITORS has been first published in 1980.

Hundreds of huge extra-terrestrial black boxes have landed in the U.S.A. They eat trees and produce balls of cellulose. After a few days, they start to churn out little black boxes that eat the cellulose balls. As these aliens don't have an aggressive behaviour, the population soon gets used to them while the White House is desperately trying to find a way to communicate with them.

Now, Jerry Conklin has discovered a lost place in the Iowa forests where three black boxes have started to produce automobiles. It seems that these aliens want to thank the country for having let them eat in peace its forests. But the Washington administration is not so happy with that and fears that the automobile industry will collapse if everybody can have a car for free in the next months.
