Review Summaries
"It is long long ago: a time of dinosaurs and giant tarantulas and tortoises. Tumak (Richardson), a member of the dark-haired Rock Tribe in the mountains, is expelled by his father Akhoba, the leader. After several days of travel across dry wastes, he reaches the ocean, where the Shell Tribe (all blondes) fishes and lives. Loana (Welch), the beautiful daughter of this tribe's chief, nurses Tumak back to health, but this enrages her intended, and after a fight Tumak is driven away from the Shell Tribe as well. But Loana decides to make her way with him. Eventually they rejoin the Rock Tribe, where Tumak becomes the new chief and Loana teaches them some of her ways. But Tumak's brother Sakana plots his overthrow. This 1966 remake of a 1940 Lon Chaney film features interesting landscapes, decent giant monster work by Ray Harryhausen, and the stunningly beautiful Welch (age 26 and still pretty new to film), but is often pretty boring."
