Review Summaries
"A number of elite scientists are missing. This story is being followed by Polly Perkins, reporter. She is in her office when HUGE robots attack the city. She runs outside to take pictures armed with her trusty camera.
The city cannot possibly fight the robots, a radio call goes out for Sky Captain, who arrives in a flying tiger plane. When he luckily knocks down one of the robots the entire group retreats. Polly and Sky Captain (JOE) meet to discuss the problem and track down the remaining scientist.
The follow the villians to Nepal, and finally to an uncharted island. The genius scientist is long dead, but his work has been completed by intelligent robots. Sky Captain and Polly manage to get aboard the spacecraft and save the world from distruction. Polly saves her last photo for a picture of Sky Captain, forsaking the obvious Pulitzer-winning photo she might have taken."

"This is a very complicated movie to describe. To start off, nearly 100% of the backgrounds and surroundings are CGI, computer generated, but they look fairly realistic, not like a cartoon. This movie takes place in the 1930's, but a 1930's with advanced technology--so they use propeller planes, but the propeller planes can also fly underwater.
The movie starts out with an attack of giant flying robots on New York. The robots land and start crunching everything around them. Military pilot Jude Law shoots one down. They take it in for examination. The robots attack again. Meanwhile Jude and his former girlfriend played by Gwyneth Paltrow figure out that someone is directing the robots to gather strategic equipment in order to destroy the Earth. Jude has a number of spectacular air battles with the flying robots. These air battles make up the bulk of the movie.
Jude and Gwyneth fly to find the island hideout of the robot maker. They are joined by Angelina Jolie, who is in charge of a magnificant giant flying aircraft carrier. When they get to the island they have to fight the robots.
The special effects in this movie are incredible. Although the backgrounds are a little blurry at times, the battle scenes are quite extensive and the movie is action-filled.
However, the characters and actors left much to be desired. Jude Law was extremely soft spoken and feminine that by the end of the film I was thinking of him as Judy Law). Gywneth, on the other hand, was aggressive and masculine. And Angelina was very butch. I guess in Hollywood they have to have the men acting like women and the women acting like men. "
