Review Summary
A terrible murder took place some years ago in a suburban Tokyo house, and "ju-on" (the powerful negative energy left by a homicide that involves great rage) lingers on to infect other people -- who unwillingly and unknowingly carry it away with them to pass it on to still others. These include the young professional couple who live there today, a young female welfare worker who visits to clean up and do chores for the old lady sitting almost motionlessly in one room, the retired detective who investigated the original murder, his daughter, several of her high school classmates, and so on. This 2003 Japanese film depends more on atmospherics than gore, and is scheduled for a U.S. remake by writer-director Takashi Shimizu and Sam Raimi.
