| Review Summary |
I, Robot, loosely based on the work of Isaac Asimov is set in the year 2035, a time when robots are to become common household items.
The apparent suicide of Dr. Lanning, the designer of those robots, starts off an investigation by Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) who believes that the doctor was murdered. Having a deep-seated mistrust of robots, his suspicions fall on a rather unique robot, Sonny (voiced by Alan Tudyk) that does not follow the three laws of robotic which state that (1) robots may never intentionally harm a human, (2) robots must always obey human orders, unless they conflict with the first law, and (3) robots must protect themselves, unless their actions conflict with the first or second law. As Spooner is considered a bigot towards robots, no one believes him.
Spooner's investigations soon lead him to a more appalling truth. The very existence of human race is endangered by a new generation of robots. Accompanied by Dr. Calvin (Bridget Moynahan), Spooner has to find a way to stop these machines.

Dr. Alfred Lannning, the creator of the three laws of robotics is found dead in the lobby of U.S. Robotics, apparently having killing himself. Detective Del Spooner thinks otherwise and arrests a robot named Sonny for the crime. Investigation by Dr. Susan Calvin reveals that Sonny doesn't have to obey the three laws because of a program created by Lanning. Spooner and Calvin uncover a plot by the computer in charge of U.S. Robotics to take control of the world via the newest series of robots.
