Review Summaries
"The inhabitants of the village Frankenstein are plagued by the "curse" of Frankenstein and seek to raze the remnants of the old castle. The early attempts to blow it up are thwarted by Ygor (Lugosi) who is alive again and scrambling over the ruins when he spies the monster's hand outstretched. He unburies the monster (Chaney) and they flee the destruction. The monster is struck by lightning giving him more energy as they stagger to Vasaria to find Henry Frankenstein's second son Ludwig (Hardwicke). Science runs in the family, as this Frankenstein is a renowned brain surgeon. The good doctor is living anonymously without his daughter Elsa (Ankers) or his neighbors suspecting his family's troubled legacy. Ygor proceeds to blackmail the doctor into aiding and abetting his evil scheme. The monster has killed again, been captured but has broken free after going mad with rage and escaping his bonds. Both Ygor and the monster return to the laboratory killing the doctor's lab assistant and attempt to kidnap daughter Elsa. The pair is overcome with a sleep inducing gas. Frankenstein enlists the services of Dr. Bohmer (Atwill) to assist in destroying the creature. Bohmer relents thinking it murder so they decide to do what his brother Wolf had planned to do, replace the deranged criminal brain with one of intellect and virtue. Actually everyone has an agenda; Ygor wants his brain used, the monster wants the brain of a little village girl he befriended, while Frankenstein thinks lab assistant Kettering's brain is the right choice. In the confusion of the surgical procedure, Ygor's brain is slipped into the monsters head. There is an uprising by the peasants. Frankenstein is warned of the danger by Elsa and her fiancée (Bellamy). The doctor is then shocked to find Ygor's voice ranting from the monster's mouth. Bohmer is electrocuted before the burning laboratory takes the life of Frankenstein and his monster. The End."
