Review Summaries
"Three young medical students - John Kendrick, Louise Stone, and Cornish - look forward to a career researching ways to bring recently dead bodies back to life. Kendrick, however, decides to pursue this at a commercial firm, and is angry when his colleagues decline to join him. At first he is wealthy and successful, but the firm cancels his expensive project. He quits and works alone, becoming a laughing stock and falling into poverty. After his wife dies, his young son is assigned to juvenile hall until he can find a means of support. The boy escapes and begs him to find work, but he refuses to to do anything but his research, and even rejects Stones' offer to help.
But when the boy's dog is put to sleep by the dog catcher, Kendrick finally swallows his pride and takes it to Cornish, who is just about to try his experiment. Cornish's experiment, with some help from Kendrick, is a success. Kendrick wins back the respect of his peers and the love of his son."
