Review Summaries
"One October day at the Good Day Home for Girls, orphans Tatty, Phoebe, Mary and Little Ann help one of their housemothers clean out her closet. During the cleaning, they find an old brass lamp that Miss Lavender allows them to keep. Miss Lavender tells them the brass lamp is really a wishing lamp she ordered from a magazine when she was a girl. When the lamp was new, it supposedly contained 101 wishes, but no one knows how many are left – or if the magic of the wishing lamp is real at all. When the girls start making wishes, it becomes apparent that the magic IS real and there seem to be at least a few wishes left to spend. Soon the girls are wishing to be taller, to be invisible and to win prizes in the Halloween costume competition. When one of the girls makes an angry wish that causes a lot of trouble, the girls find themselves in a bind. The wish will take two more wishes to undo, and the lamp might be running out. The only person who can help them is Miss Know It All. She arrives to help them out of their bind and to tell them how many wishes are left in the lamp. "
