Review Summaries
"About every thirty years or so, in the sleepy group of towns called "The Calla", something horrible happens--the wolves come. This is what Roland and his band of followers, or, "Ka-tet", must face in Stephen King's new sci-fi, horror, mystery, fantasy addition to the widely read and praised, "Dark Tower" series, "The Wolves of the Calla". In the Dark Tower series, the reader is thrust into a post-apocalyptic world where Roland, the last of a long-line of "gunslingers" (a kind of knight), is trying to set things in his world right. But on his earth, where time flows and changes like water, where the old-time western saloon can be found down the road from a medieval castle, and where evil spirits are as real as you or I, how is he to do this? By Finding the Dark Tower. After four books worth of adventures, we find Roland and his ka-tet of gunslingers--Susannah, Eddie, Jake, and Oy--in an area the locals call the Calla. A place where, every thirty years, a group that the locals call "the wolves", take the children and...*do* something to them; something that leaves the children shadows of their former selves mentally, but gigantic in size physically. At first, the group is hesitant because it is a detour from their journey; but, the priest of the town, a man who has a past of his own that King fans will love, has a reward that Roland can't resist--Black 13.
