Review Summary
In this movie, a guy named Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) has unknowingly been part of an extremely popular 24/7 soap opera his entire life. He lives a perfect small town, with a perfect wife and perfect job and perfect home. His town is set on an island surrounded by water, which he happens to have a fear of since his father drowned in a storm on a boat.
Truman doesn't realize that the whole town is a huge set, and everyone there (except him) are actors. However, strange things start to happen, like an elevator doesn't have a back wall, or a light falls out of the sky. Truman decides that he wants to go to Fiji, but is blocked from leaving. He decides that everyone's in on something except him, and one night mysteriously disappears. The next day, he is found on a boat, and the producer of the show (who wants it to continue without Truman figuring anything out) tries to stop him by causing a huge storm. Eventually Truman reaches the edge of the set, and talks to the director. He is told everything, and given the choice to go out into the real world, or stay in the show.

Truman has lived his life on the island of Seahaven for his entire life. He has always wanted to leave to find his long-lost girlfriend, but never has been able to. What he doesn't know is that Seahaven is a fictional place inside a giant studio, and every except Truman are actors. He is the star of his own television series called The Truman Show, and he doesn't know it. One day he decides to conquer his fear of water, and goes off to sea to finally leave his prison. Jim Carrey has made an amazing change from slapstick actor (e.g. Liar Liar) to dramatic actor. He plays Truman with ease, but Ed Harris is the big winner as The Truman Show creator, Christof, and Peter Weir has an amazing direction.
