Review Summaries
"The Ring revolves around Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a newspaper reporter who hears about a mysterious video tape that kills you in 7 days. She is first skeptical about the idea until four teenagers suddenly die after a week of watching the video. She then decides to track down the video to see exactly for herself what it's all about. After watching it she confides in her friend and ex Noah (Martin Henderson) to save her life and their son Aidan (David Dorfman), who also watched the tape. So in conclusion they have to unravel the mystery of “The Ring”. "

"This is the American remake of the 1998 Japanese hit movie Ringu which was based on a novel by Koji Suzuki. The plot follows Seattle reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) as she investigates the death of her niece by a mysterious vieotape that causes death to the viewer within seven days. Rachel, her son Aidan (David Dorfman) and her boyfriend Noah (Martin Henderson) all view the tape."

"The movie starts with a mysterious video tape. It's claimed that once you watch this tape your phone rings, and a little girl whispers 7 days, and in 7 days later you die, but they say before you die you see a ring. Rachael, a writer, has to unravel this mystery of the tape about the little girl Samara Morgan before she will kill again as she never sleeps.... "

"When the mysterious deaths of several teenagers are traced back to a videotape they watched, Rachael the journalist (Naomi Watts) seeks out the video tape and watches it herself. She soon learns that the video tape is haunted, and that whoever watches it will die exactly one week later. Fearing for her life (and the life of her son who also watches the tape), Rachel frantically searches for answers to the following questions: Why do people die after watching the movie? Why does it take seven days? And most importantly, how can the deaths of people who watch the tape be avoided? "
Jason Bowers, Resident The Ring Scholar

"When a mysterious videotape shows up, a single-mom (Watts) brazenly watches it, albeit the tape has already killed four viewers. As a newspaper intern, her curiosity and tireless research lead her to a remote, foggy island off Seattle to piece together the tape's elements which include a lighthouse, a tree, oval picture frames, insects and a dead horse. She subsequently believes the tape is some kind of message from a young girl long dead. When she interviews the girl's father, who denies ever having a daughter, she senses she is indeed on the right track."
Angry Jim Magin, Resident Scholar

"The main character is a journalist on a search for the truth about her niece's bizarre death. She involves her son and her son's father in the search, and all three become potential victims; this drives her to become obsessed with solving the mystery. The "killer" uses a videotape, phones and televisions to psychically attack victims from beyond the grave."

"A bunch of teens watch a video in a cabin in the woods, then seven days later they all start dropping like flies. Whatever it is that's killing them sure likes to leave a creepy looking corpse. One of the dead kids is the niece of a reporter who decides to investigate the mysterious deaths. She obtains a copy of the notorious video and watches it, unwittingly setting off a chain of events that could lead to the grisly deaths of others, including herself. Luckily she has the help of her ex and her clairvoyant son, and they eventually find where the evil girl/witch/ghost came from. "
