Review Summaries
"By 1957, Hollywood had long been cashing in on radiation paranoia. One of the most intelligent of these “what-if” films was “The Incredible Shrinking Man,” in which Scott Carey (Grant Williams) drifts through a peculiar waterborne fog and eventually begins to shrink. Despite a plausible doctor's explanation and a possible antidote, his condition fails to reverse. Intolerably frustrated, he temporarily seeks comfort with a circus midget (April Kent). When we again see him at home, it is shocking how his condition has worsened -- he now resides in a doll's house, badgering his wife for his every need. Resourcefully living a solitary caveman existence, he improvises a base camp with food, water and a matchbox shelter, superb effects which keep Scott in believable perspective. When he realizes he has competition for the huge bread crumb which has sustained him, he challenges a spider to a fight to the death."
