Maldus returns, arranging for the crew to get a special picture which shows them getting into nasty accidents, several minutes in advance. Chianna gets burned up, Dargo gets skewered, and the others get killed in imaginative ways... Except none of them get killed. Maldus transports them to some other plane of existance (a cheap looking Australian soundstage) and torments them. Somehow, by destroying one of Maldus's "constructs", that weakens him enough for Zhan to kick his butt again. This was sort of a cute episode because it took a while to figure out what was going on. But the way they dealt with Maldus was too pat; where did he really take them? You get the impression that the painting wasn't really cause-and-effect, but just a way that Maldus was toying with them. It seems pretty clear at the end that Maldus may appear again; the crew has to be extra careful about bringing alien art on the ship in the future. | ||||||||
