Review Summaries
"Roger, Ann, Eliza, and Jack are staying with old Mrs. Whiton (who writes books for, as Roger says, "Spartan children") when they discover the thyme garden, which contains almost every kind of thyme in existance. It also contains the Natterjack, who is a magical toad, a keen gardener, a British ex-patriate (but a very patriotic one), and a very gruff character. With the help of the Natterjack, the children select the proper thyme to enable them to travel through time. They visit the minutemen of the American Revolution (where the Natterjack's pro-British sentiments get them into a lot of trouble), a stop on the underground railroad, and their own parents as children (delving into another one of Eager's books).
