Review Summaries
"This is one George Lucas would prefer buried and forgotten for all eternity. Unfortunately, a copy can be found on the internet for diehard fans. Once having endured this monstrosity, Star wars will never be the same. Starring the original cast (they must have been coerced with contractual obligations) with cameos of Bea Arthur (I kid you not), Diane Carroll and that guy from the Carol Burnette Show, this sloppily edited piece o' crap aired on TV back in the 70's, probably in a hasty misguided attempt to cash in on ratings, though most people probably changed the chanel after the first ten minutes or so. The main story, if you could call it that, centers around a special holiday on Chewbacca's home planet called "Life Day" and judging from the way everyone acts, the balance of the universe will be thrown off or something if Chewbacca doesn't get home in time for it. The bulk of the program focuses on Chewbacca's family back on his home planet: his wife Mala, his dad, Itchy, and his kid, Lumpy (I promise these names are real) and the stuff they do to kill time until Chewbacca arrives. Within the first twelve minutes of the show all you see is three wookies growling and howling without the benefits of subtitles or, as was cleverly done in Star Wars, an English speaking character to interact with them so you can fill in the blanks. There's a cartoon starring Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett, Princess Leia's horribly sung "Life Day" theme song, uninteresting holographic TV shows, a pointless and tedious song and dance rendition in the cantina (thanks a lot, Bea), and a tortuously long and boring instruction video on assembling irrelevant electronic devices. If you want a good laugh, this is the movie to see, but only take in small amounts at a time; viewing this horrific nightmare all at once can possibly result in severe psychological damage."
