| Review Summary |
The Palamino, a small six man spaceship traveling through the farthest reaches of space in search of new life forms, stumbles upon the biggest black hole their computer has ever seen. As if this weren't amazing enough, perched right on the edge of it is a huge spaceship. Upon closer inspection it turns out to be the missing ship that Kate's father was on. The Palamino crew decide to check it out and are nearly sucked into the black hole in the process. They manage to dock with the spaceship and and are led to the presesnce of the ship's captain. Dr. Reinhardt is a little nuts from having lived alone with robots for twenty years and is determined to fly into the black hole. He has invented anti-gravity technology that enables the ship to resist the forces of the black hole and wants to doa little exploring. He puts on a nice front for the Palamino crew and helps them repair their ship, but he's really a murderer full of deceit and evil. He uses his sinister red robot Maximillian to control the Palamion crew, but one starts to wonder who is really in control when Maximillian disobeys orders and kills Reinhardt's new would-be protege. Is the robot a senitent evil, or just a reflection of Reinhardt's madness?

When the crew of the USS Palomino ventures out into deep space to investigate a black hole and look for a sister ship that disappeared twenty years earlier, they get even more than they bargained for. For one thing, the ship's chief scientist(believe it or not) is still alive after all this time and fixated on the idea that black holes are actually gateways to other galaxies and dimensions. After that, the Palomino crew is in a BIG hurry to leave, but that's easier said than done when the scientist sics his personal robot servants on them, causing one of them to be killed in the process.
