Review Summaries
"Enchanter is the second book of the Axis Trilogy (beginning with BattleAxe _The Wayfarer Redemption in the US_ and ending with StarMan). After the terrible battle of Gorkenfort, Axis is spending some time with his new family, among the Icarii. While learning the songs that are the core of his Enchanter powers, he is also training the Icarii Strike Force, for the oncoming confrontation with his hated brother Borneheld and Gorgrael's Skrealings. In the meantime, Faraday, now wed to Borneheld, patiently awaits the return of the man she loves, managing from time to time to escape the bitter reality with her magical powers. This middle volume is definitely focused on Axis marching across Achar, determined to reunite the three races, Acharites, Icarii and Avar, and to recreate the legendary kingdom of Tencendor; of Faraday and the Avar, little is said. However, everything slowly clicks into place, and it soon becomes clear that each character has a role to play, that all must fulfill their part of the Prophecy in order to save the world from a Gorgrael who is becoming more powerful with every passing day. Even though the pace slows down at times, Enchanter is a suspenseful novel with some great battle scenes and above all, believable characters. The outcome of certain intrigues might sometimes seem too easy, or to have come out of nowhere, but as a whole it is a very enjoyable story. The end was most surprising and I'm looking forward to discover what happens next."

" Axis, who is the Starman seeks to reunite all of the people so they can defeat the evil Gorgrael. Axis's obstacles are many as he must win the trust and the respect of the Iscaii people, battle his cruel and vicious half-brother Lord Borneheld and his backers, the ruthless Seneschal. Axis also has conflicts of a heart as he is torn between Faraday, the woman he is prophecized to marry and his growing love for warrior woman,Azhure who is also plays a part in the prophecy. The battle scenes of the novel also are excellent as Axis takes the battle to his enemies: Gorgrael and Borneheld. Her characters are so memorable like the hero Axis who can command armies but cannot command his own heart. Azhure-the haunting warrior woman who beauty and courage impresses all who know her. Ruthless and corrupt Lord Borneheld obession to destroy Axis will threaten his own homeland. Faraday-Borneheld's wife who must stay married to man who she loathes while she waits to be free to be with Axis."

" Tor, Nov 2001, 27.95, 544 pp. ISBN: 0312875827 When puissant Icariian enchanter Axis Sunsoar meets Faraday, wife of his half-brother Borneheld, he falls in love with her. He vows that she will become his wife one day soon. Faraday, a follower of the Mother Goddess, expects her beloved Axis to save her from her current abusive husband. However, raging jealousy for stealing the affection of his spouse, begrudging his sibling's recent success, and envying his half-brother's new relationship with their father leads Borneheld to seek Axis' death. Adding to the relationship mess is that for no apparent reason, Icariian desires the mysterious Azhure. With traitors inside his inner circle ready to destroy him, Axis must find a means to neutralize Borneheld and stop another half-brother if he is to fulfill the prophecy of ruling his fellow bird like people and the forest dwellers. The second novel in Sarah Douglass' Wayfarer Redemption series, ENCHANTER, is a deep relationship fantasy that is filled with action and adventure, but succeeds because the various populations that make up this globe seem real. Though the tale starts slow, especially for those who read book one, as Ms. Douglass patiently reintroduces the cast, once the story line gets into motion, it races faster than the speed of light. Subplot threads remain dangling for more sequels but fans will concur to this enchanting novel deserved to win the Australian Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel. Harriet Klausner "
