Esteemed Scholar: Kandice Seeber Total Posts in Anne McCaffrey 177 1. Favorite book and why? It's very difficult to pick one book of hers that I like the best. All her series are wonderful! I really loved the Freedom/Catteni series because it is a tale of survival and romance. There is a delicate balance of science and fantasy that satisfies both sides of the genre. The characters are real and likeable and the setting is glorious! 2. Least favorite book and why? There are no books that I have read by Anne that I dislike - however, I tend to like the series better than I like the stand-alone novels. 3. Favorite scene in favorite book and why? There are too many to choose from - I like the scenes in the Crystal Singer series in which Killashandra becomes enthralled with her Crystals... you can almost feel the sweet pain she experiences. 4. Favorite character and why? Menolly, because she is a wonderfully strong and independent female character, and at the same time she is creative and sensitive and frightened. She is a wonderfully balanced character with little flaws that make her very real. The way she gets along with her gaggle of fire lizards is so appealing! 6. If you could see a sequel to one of the author's books, which would it be and what would it be about? I would love to see more Freedom/Catteni books. This series feels unfinished. 7. What do you like about author's writing style? She makes her characters stand out. They are likeable, strong and real. I really care about what happens to them. Her settings are wonderfully rich, and her use of animals (real and mythical) adds and enchanting flavor to her stories. 8. What are your favorite themes of this author? She uses music a lot and tends to make alive things which would otherwise seem inanimate. Everything in her stories seems to come alive! 9. What could be most improved about this authors books?
