1. Favorite book and why?
How can anyone have only one favorite among the works of Tolkien? If I must condense it into one book, I would have to say The Red Book. The reasons should be clear to anyone who has read it: it is a timeless masterpiece. Deeply thought out, and well written, with a profound plot, a perfect blend of characters, and, of course, clear descriptions which allow the mind to see it all as clearly as if it were occuring right now.

3. Favorite scene in favorite book and why?
Everything. From the Shire to Rivendell, from the Mines of Moria to Orodruin, from Gondor to Lothlorien, every place, and every scene, holds a new degree of wonder and suspense, humor and beauty, terror and riveting thought.

4. Favorite character and why?
Which one? All have elements which add flavor and deapth to the story.

5. Which character do you identify most with and why?
Ah, but that you will have to guess. Read my reviews, and see if you can decide which I am.

6. If you could see a sequel to one of the author's books, which would it be and what would it be about?
I would truely love it if there had been a sequel to the Return of the King. The tale of what happened to the Ring-Bearers after they left over the sea. It would describe of the voyage to the Havens. It would have revealed whether Saruman was correct in his assumption that Frodo would not live long, and how he died, if that was the case. Whether Samwise ever reached the Havens. What went on there. Whether it was some remnant of Numenor ... and so on. It would also have been interesting to know what happened in Middle Earth after the fall of Sauron: Whether all orcs had been found and slain, or redeemed themselves, or whether they lay in wait for a new master; whether Moria was retaken by the Dwarves, etc. Ah, but we can only wish.

7. What do you like about author's writing style?
What most impresses me about Tolkien's writing style is his amazing adaptability. The Hobbit has a feel as if it was written by Bilbo, with it's light speech and commentary humor, whereas the Fellowship of the Ring has a slightly more refined tone, and deeper thought, more from the viewpoint of Frodo and Gandalf. By the time one reaches The High King, they can see a shift to the formal eloquence that coincides with the shift of Aragorn going from the wild ranger Strider, to being the High King of Gondor. This style is evedent throughout all of his books, and makes them very vivid and intriguing.
