I have only read about half of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and it is already very good!!!! Love the story so far!!!        The commentator Ralph Brew posts on 10/24/2005 7:06:59 AM Hi, I did some research a few years ago and found out that Garner (who is now 71) has often had people beg him to wtite the final book of a trilogy begun with The Weirdstone... and The Moon... He apparently has remained adamant that he moved on from that style, subject and emotional anxiety many years ago and believes that the power of the end of The Moon... is that the reader is left hanging desiring more. Disappointing though this is, I have to agree. If anyone is planning to go to Alderley Edge for a visit, make sure you go in mid September or Mid April which I think are the two weekends of the year that caving and mining society opens up one of the mines under the Edge for public tours. I stumbled upon this quite by chance when I made my pilgrimage there three years ago. Maybe those who wish for a sequel should write one! Susan and Colin a few years on, their powers awakened as they head north to help the lios-alfar beyond Minith Bannawg to deal with the mysterious disappearances of their people...?        James King posts on 9/18/2005 4:15:31 PM I have been an admirer of Alan Garner's work for some time, but I had never read the Owl Service until very recently. It just didn't work for me. It's credited as being the best of his earlier novels but I just didn't get it. The ending in particular is odd and very inconclusive. Have I missed something??        The commentator Amy posts on 9/11/2005 4:03:46 PM My mother and her mother read The Weirdstone of Brisingamen together when they were children, and now I own a copy and it's as fresh and wild as it was in the 60s. I also own the Moon of Gomrath and it seems to me as though the series with Colin and Susan is unfinished - there is a definite hint of another plot with the elves after the Moon of Gomrath. I wonder what happened to that?        The commentator Jeremy Brown posts on 5/29/2005 6:24:43 PM When I was a teenager,Elidor was one of my favorite books. I would read it again and again.I could not though understand the Owl Service. It just did not make sense.The two books are so different. Now I am nearly 50 I may try it again. I must have read _The Weirdstone of Brisingamen_ 50 times as a young woman. It still gives me absolute chills for the truly wonderful adventures the children, Colin and Susan, were involved in.
