continuing from earlier ....
3) Klingons who defend a planet of their empire to the last man, but save the planet and become honored heros in that planets history. Title something like “Honored Dead”. Told by a Klingon storyteller or planetary historian again no humans involved.
This format would have several advantages in that individual shows that had good rating and with characters that worked well could be spun off into new Star Trek series that examine aspects of the show never consider before. Thoughts or other suggetions ?

A series where each episode stands alone is a tight knit Federation universe, with 'guest starring' characters and written by independent sci fi writers? Too good an idea, they'll never go for it. That's just crazy talk!

With the recent cancellation of Enterprise, for the first time in many years television won't have a running Star Trek series. What would you all like to see emerge as the next Star Trek television series??
I myself would like to see some new thinking myself in what direction the star trek universe takes. My thoughts are that a series be created with no re occurring characters per say and also not set in any certain time frame. The title would be something like ‘Federation Space' and every week we would have different and new characters involved in different aspects of space exploration / situations in well-written and exciting stories. The outer limits series provides a good template for how this would look in its presentation. Using a combination existing known races and set through all the series time zones it could be presented as a history of Star Fleet, the Federation and the individuals and races associated with the it.
Some story ideas might include the following:
1) Crew of a small federation star ship who find and ‘steal' weapons technology from more advanced races in such a way they don't realize it's been done due to the adverse condition of how they get the technology. Such as a derelict ship falling into the sun or such…
2) Ferengi merchants out to fleece a planet or society who discover they have been taken to the cleaners at the end. Title something like “Deal of the Century”…Told by the ferengi with no humans per say involved.

Omega_46 raised one valid point here - the quality of writing. And I'm not that disappointed with this fall season - both the augments mini and the Vulcan episode are quite OK, specially when compared with most of the Voyager and the first couple of seasons of itself.
The major flaw in current incarnation of ST is that they seem to have given up on taking the plots from the best of SF out there. The people are still writing very good SF, and why do the producers of ST fall into the NIH syndrome ("not invented here") is beyond me. Whatever the actual authors of the underlying stories may ask is still way cheaper than having the whole series spin down into a standstill.
And yeah, before I forget: if I see them visit XX century Earth once more, I'll just flip the switch.

She's a little touchy and doesn't get satire yet, but I suspect she's 'young'. So careful about biting her.
And I want to say in passing Enterpise is NOT Quantuum Leap. QL was actually pretty good most of the time. By the way, who's head you calling pointy? Just kidding, I can take a joke. Got any???

Gosh you're touchy. I didn't mean any harm. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I was trying to be humorous. You really need to lighten up. I'm sorry about your foot. Now...... just where would you like me to bite you ? (That was a joke too !).
