Review of Armies of Light & Darkness
Usually, novelizations of "new adventures" of a TV series aren't very good. But Armies of Light & Darkness actually isn't bad. It details the adventures of Vir, Londo's former assistant, as he uncovers the Drahk plot to control Centauri Prime. Normally, you wouldn't think of Vir as a great hero, but his bumbling about is amusing; especially amusing is his alliance with Technomages, who treat Vir as little more than a disposable pet, useful in some circumstances but definitely expendable. We also get to see a fair amount of Londo, who writes personal journal entries in his own style. While the book is definitely a middle and not an ending--there is a book 3 to come--it's worth reading in its own right in order to see Vir explore a lost Shadow base, and begin to uncover the webs of deceit that the Drahk have spun on Centauri. On the less interesting side is a subplot involving "Prime Candidates", nationalistic soldiers who work indirectly for the Drahk, and the designs of one of them on Londo's adopted daughter. Garibaldi and an expendable security guard from Babylon 5, Lou Welch, also make a guest appearance. The third book in this series, where Vir presumably kicks out the Drahk, should be worth reading when it comes out.
