TV-Commentary - Babylon 5
What did Mr. Morden want?
Morden went around asking what everyone else wanted, but did anyone ever stop to think what he wanted? What did he get out of working for the Shadows? As a salesman of sorts, did he get a commission every time he got someone to work for the Shadows? Or did he own stock in Zahadum enterprises? And who were those spiders that traveled with him, was that his sales force? Could he order the spiders around; for example, could he get one to scratch his back or fetch his slippers?

One thing for sure - his manners of asking the question sounded like the script was adjusted so little kids could anderstand that he was ineed asking a question. I'd expect from the author to be more creative on that part, since embassadors are smart enough people, and shadows wouldn't be playing stupid themselves. So why all this plain and discharecterizing openness? Cheap play, cheap result.

It doesnt matter what Morden really wanted since his head ended up on a pike on Centauri Prime with Vir waving goofily at it like some kind of demented version of Jerry Lewis.

The book I cited is considered canon by JMS. The series leaves the details of Morden's choice unexplained...they make it seem he serves the shadows willingly. He does, but only because they "gave him what he wanted." This is all in the book.

you are soo wrong Morden and the others on the icurus were given the choice to either serve the shadows or die ..well guess what he and sheppard choose...go back and watch 0 hour to xahadoom .

The B5 book "The Shadow within" describes Morden's siding with the shadows. They show him his wife and child (presumed dead when a jump gate exploded as their liner went through it) still alive and in suffering, floating through hyperspace. Whether this was the truth or not, Morden agreed to serve the shadows if they would "end his loved one's suffering"

I think Mr.morden is a crazed up fruit loop who want to allie the shadowes for his personal gain. Or because He has been in side one of those ships like anna Sheridan and does what ever the shadoes ask him to.

Yeah, but this reason was from the technomage book trilogy, not the actual show. I'm sure they could both work with each other

The commentator I hate this posts on 4/20/2005 11:05:13 PM

the plot was that Morden sold his soul to the shadows for power not any other plot twist , he was givien the choice when the research vessel that him and sheridans wife were on discovered the sleepeing Shadopws and they were givien the choice to freely serve them or die ..well like the snake he was he choose to serve them. that it

Isaac posts on 4/20/2005 9:47:12 PM

Morden's wife and children were supposedly in some explosion, but lingered in some torturous state of neither death nor life. Morden worked with the Shadows to secure their release.
