(click here) TV-Commentary - Babylon 5 What did Mr. Morden want? Morden went around asking what everyone else wanted, but did anyone ever stop to think what he wanted? What did he get out of working for the Shadows? As a salesman of sorts, did he get a commission every time he got someone to work for the Shadows? Or did he own stock in Zahadum enterprises? And who were those spiders that traveled with him, was that his sales force? Could he order the spiders around; for example, could he get one to scratch his back or fetch his slippers? I'd expect from the author to be more creative on that part, since embassadors are smart enough people, and shadows wouldn't be playing stupid themselves. So why all this plain and discharecterizing openness? The series leaves the details of Morden's choice unexplained...they make it seem he serves the shadows willingly. He does, but only because they "gave him what he wanted." They show him his wife and child (presumed dead when a jump gate exploded as their liner went through it) still alive and in suffering, floating through hyperspace.
