Ivanova was bisexual, she was attracted to men and women. JMS has stated that she and Talia had a sexual relationship (hence why her reaction to Talia turning traitor is so much more hurt than anyone else).
Is quite strange in this day and age the denial that some sci-fi fans have when a character they like has a sexual orientation they don't approve of. It happened in Buffy fandom too.

In an online chat a few years back JMS was asked if Talia and Susan slept together, as in lovers. He said they did and yes they were lovers.

She shined her lack of diplomacy every step of the way, and yet against all logic she doesn't only survive, but gets promoted. She is a hot head, never listens, and does't understand. Her lashing out at Lorien's words in "Into the Fire" only showed her being the wrong person at the wrong time and in the wrong place.
As a true fan of Babylon 5 i found it shocking and vaguely insulting to have such person which could never find peace with anything or anyone to entrust being the head of the rangers as Delenn offerred her in "Sleep in Light".

I have recently acquired the entire Babylon 5 series and have spent the last couple weeks watching them. The one episode where Talia stayed with Ivanova for a couple nights... There was that one point where it looked like they were going to kiss, but the scene cut. I have always wondered exactly what relationship they could have had, if Talia was not exposed as a PsyCorp spy.
This "relationship" was also alluded to when the command staff turned in their uniforms to Delenn and made a personal confession. Ivanova's confession was that Talia was the only person she ever really loved.
This information is probably old news for most, but having recently been able to watch the entire series back to back to back to back, I thought it was of interest.

You know? If that were ever really true, I think it would have ruined the story line where Marcus sacrificed his life for Ivanova, but, when she and Talia are speaking in Susan's quarters in their nightgowns, I thought "What an interesting thing this would be to happen on non-cable tv", and, when Ivanova searches her pillow in the morning after Talia has left :-O

i don't believe her character is, but there have been rumors for year that claudia is in real life. i guess i should be ashamed of myself for spreading possibly hurtful rumors. but let me ask the same question i asked on the xena lines and have yet to receive an answer. being asexual i have almost no interest in sex, but what do so many straight guys see in lesbians? i mean what's in it for them other than just watching two women together? please, no one be offended, no offense is intended, i'm just curious. take care.

Does anyone think Susan had the upper arm strength to do the Reverse Cowgirl with Marcus Cole? I know he wanted to do her real bad and she wanted him too.
What about Delenn? Could she do it with Sheridan? I doubt it. Her arms were too spindly.
What about Garibaldis wife? She was probably too old.
Lyta Alexander, Talia Winters and Bester in a 3-some? Probably yes! They both look like they work out and Chekov always looked like he could handle two at once. Those black gloves they wore were so hot!! I really hope Bester isnt gay like Sulu turned out to be. That would be a major BUMmer!

Ivanova posed in Playboy. There are real pictures of her naked. Why do you glue her head on someone else?

And I must respectfully disagree with ECS. She wasn't attracted to strong-willed individuals: her boyfriend who fell in with the HomeGuard was a flawed individual who became subsumed in a racist movement; Talia was a rather confused individual trying to make sense of confliciting data (what the Corps taught vs what the Corps did) - and ultimately, she got close to Ivanova only because of her "sleeper agent" programming. She never opened her eyes to what Marcus had to offer until it was too late.
If anything, Susan Ivanova was a smart woman making stupid choices in affairs of the heart.

Brett, that is not the case. Please check your facts before you post.
Ivanova and Marcus were never an item.
Ivanova regrets this after his death (Rising Star).

Susan was not a person who could be placed in a catagorie. Rather she was drawn to people who were strong willed. He old boy friend was man who was strong and independant befor he developed in to a racist. Ms. Winters pursued Ivanova, she was also a pathetic yet strong person who grows stronger after the Ironheart incedent.
The Ranger was just the same: pathetic, strong, bent on self distruction, and only in the final moment can Ivanova see the trueth. Same as in TKO.
