Was Farmer in the Sky a Malthusian false alarm?
In Farmer in the Sky we see people emigrating to other planets to farm because of a food shortage on Earth. But with increased birth control and decline in birth rates as countries grow more advanced, as well as advanced farming techniques, we have more than enough food for a multiple of the globe's population. Do you think Heinlein was trying to predict a future disaster, or was simply trying to set up a scenario for an interesting pioneer story?
