I really can't add anything to this post. As a Sci-Fi geek, I love a lot of Sci-Fi shows and have been around a lot of Sci-Fi fans; but I have to say, of all of the Sci-Fi fandom - from Stargate to Dr Who , to Lexx, to Star Wars, to…..Gosh, there's so many! - Trekkers are by far the most intelligent, well spoken, and sophisticated. Guys: (and I mean “Guys” in a non-gender way) Give yourselves all a pat on the back - you deserve it!

There are many ethnicities I rarely or never saw in the Star Trek universe. For example, I never saw an Indian actor. I guess Dr. Bashir in Deep Space Nine was supposed to be Indian, judging by the name, but the actor was born in - guess where? Northern Africa :)
I also never saw a Middle Eastern person, or a Mexican, or a Filipino... not to speak of the many Western European nationalities that never appeared. There never was a Swede (afaik), or a German, or a Spaniard, or... the list is endless.
Is that racism? Hardly. The Star Trek series are US TV shows. And as such, they were more politically correct than any other show ever produced in the US. In all ST series, there's a multitude of nationalities and ethnicities. Not to mention alien species. And even the alien species had different skin colors. I really can't think of a less racist TV show.

Seeing its so important, why don't you suggest it to them, relevant point, what I see of star trek in the show they address a lot of there issues, political, racial and sociological, I am white my self, and I am not against seeing black Africans in star trek or any other show for that matter, I am not a racist and believe in a fair go for every one.

There is a point when political correctness becomes absurd. This asinine topic is a prime example. If anything, Star Trek, in its various incarnations, has been a pioneer in overcoming racial bias. I cannot count how many episodes I've seen over the decades where the underlying theme promotes equality. Both sexual AND racial equality. Who bloody cares what the cast is named? My veins pump with Scottish blood but did I get offended because they couldn't come up with a better character name than Montgomery Scott aka "Scotty" who played the stereotypical Scotsman? No, I'm not that pretentious. Watch the various shows without your own racial bias and see with open eyes at what the message says.

Actually all the African actors were occupied in bit parts in the subterrean city rave scene of Matrix 2. After Matrix 3 came out, their careers in shambles, the African actors went the way of the Italians playing Indians in 1950's westerns.

maybe no real africans have ever tried out for a role in star trek. a humorous, and kind of sad story, since so many people in south africa can't read, supermarkets are forced to put pictures of what is in the packaged or canned food on the labels, for example, for frozen chicken, they would show a chicken. when gerber started selling baby food over there shoppers panicked, believing the jars contained real babies. take care.

One African American Admiral I recall seeing on Star Trek Next Generation was "Ben Verine". I believe he played Jordie's Father when he informed Jordie that his mothers Star Ship is Missing.

To Sue Geek....I think the Admiral you may be referring to on Earth was Admiral Cartwright, played by Brock Peters (who passed away in 2005).. but not entirely sure if he's African Black.

the city of washington dc was also laid out by a black man, and unless i'm mistaken, it was a black man who performed the first open heart surgery. and let's not forget, they gave us rock and roll. isn't it a shame more black children know who 50 cent is than george washington carver?
take care.

As I reacall, (and more serious Trekkers than I can correct me if I'm wrong) there was a member of The Federation High Command who represented Earth who was African or it was an Admiral. Does anyone remember which???

Maybe they're aren't any African actors on the show because non wanted to??? Prob not racesism, and about them being stupid? One guy invented the gas mask, which also turned into the first safe air system firedepartments used. And as a military vet i thanked that guy many times, same guy also invented the traffic light, pretty handy ain't it? Another dude made the lubrication systems for the old steam trains. All races are smart and look at inventors, it goes to show what they can do when they get education! Thats what it is.

there is only one race. there are different ethnic groups. genetically, we're more than 99 percent identical. all of our differences, skin color, hair and facial features are caused by that less than one percent difference. also, i don't know if it's true, but i once read that within a thousand years there will be only one ethnic group which will be a mixture of them all. take care.

in the future race doesnt matter nor being an alien from another world. all that matters is what you are as a person not what color your skin is. i myself have never judged one by that but by their actions of what they do themselves.too bad we dont do that now.

star trek has to be the most nonracist show in the history of television. remember, the first interracial kiss was on the original star trek. as for the term african american, what's wrong with that? of course, i don't understand why anyone would want to be called anything other than an american. i certainly don't consider myself an english american just because that's where my ancestors came from. but live and let live, right? take care.

Black Africans? soo that is saying that every Black actor on star trek is not from african decent ..Now thats racism. Why is that Black african's see Black americans as not being part of thier race... I don't see the problem with Star trek ..I see your own narrow mindness and views that Black americans are not true black Afican americans but americans .

Sooner or later, this narrowminded issue would surface. First an occult, now it's racists? I think you've missed the whole perspective. If you look back through the beginning of Star Trek, Mr. Roddenberry's, Idea was to show a utopia effect, by showing how not only the poeple of earth, but a galaxy of neighboring planets coming together as one, sort of the same family, if you will. Many of the cultures playing the various rolls, were depicting avariant of races on the planet and the galaxy itself. In the end, you can make the correlation between all the races, by looking at their cultural lifestyles. So yes, their were African Americans in these roles, but where in God's name do you think we came from. Last, Mr. I'm from Africa, the show were made and developwed in America, and by an American, Don't you think his first thought were to cast people available here to fill these roles. Stop with this narrow minded nonsense, before you get everyone else complaining. No offense intended, who's next, the French, Russians, Spaniards, etc.
