Why couldn't Nazgul, Black Riders, walk?
In the first book we see a scene were the Black Rider is on a ledge, and Frodo is at the bottom of a valley. Each see the other. And yet Sam says they won't be followed, because the Black Rider can't ride down.
But Black Riders, Nazgul have legs, right? It sounded like a good two minute walk to Frodo's position; why didn't the Black Rider simply walk?

Hey, the Nazgul can't see. They can only "see" the person who is wearing the One Ring. Their horses on the other hand could. So, if they had walked down, there was a high probability that one of them would stumble and fall.
And er, a Nazgul stumbling and falling = Not very worthy of it :P

I'd say the Nazgul didn't actually know they were down there at the time. Sam just assumed they had to ride down. If the nazgul knew they were there it would have gone for them.
Oh and, 'see a scene'? It's a book, not a movie, get the terminology. (You said book, so that's what I'm going on)

They are DEAD for goodness' sake! And anyhow, does this really matter? Does it really matter, in Middle-earth or this world, at all?
