Why don't they spend more money on Andromeda's special effects?
For me, special effects don't usually make or break a story, but I have to comment on the bad special effects used in Andromeda. For starters, the ship itself is so big and shiny on the outside that it looks like a cartoon. Notice how we never see any closeups of it? It's too bright, too undetailed; it looks like a toy. The Enterprise, by contrast, had a very detailed exterior, which we saw up close--some windows, some hull etc.
But the biggest problems are the battles--90% of battles are conducted on the "image map screen"--red dots are enemies, green are good, and they make blipping sounds when they're destroyed. Occasionally they flash to a "real" shot of the ship in question, but most of the battle footage is fought on that idiotic display which is primitive compared even to current computer game technology.
Rommie: "Dylan, the green blips are firing on the red blips again!"

HI my name is Chris Rudorfer, I am one of the Andromeda the TV shows biggest fans, I know most things about the show. I saw the question about the fx, personnally, I believe the fx are perfect, However, I can't find many Andromeda games and I would like you to make more, other than that I love the show, keep it going as long as possible.

Okay, so a lot of it is repeated in the early series. But think that they might have found more important things to spend the money on. And half way through season four, and for all of season five, they had new spec FX. The ship had more detail, they had new scenes for each different episode, and in the battle with the Neitzschean fleet in the eps at the end where pretty much all 'real' images, not the sensor display.

I've noticed that at least in the 1-4 series the computer-generated animations (Andromeda killing nitzcheans ships at the battle of Witchhead, entering/exiting slipstream, and when firing the forward guns while strafing up, Commonwealth Fleet Exiting/entering Slipstream and more) were the same every episode. It would have been nice to hire some designer to make different animations; for example, Star Trek: Enterprise has only 1 scene that is repeated: the outside view when in warp vector.
