Many series have had "duplicate" episodes before, but none like this--where they try to convince #6 that he's someone else by brainwashing, bringing someone in who looks and acts like him, and to top it off try to convince him he's #12 by getting him to convince the imposter #6 that he's not! Very complex but comprehensible plot. It was also great fun watching McGoohan make snide comments at himself. So, the best episode is..."Free For All." Just the right amount of haunting slogans (6 for 2! Obey me and be free!); the bizarre journalist doubles; many rides on the Mini Moke; the Truth Test; the assistant "who won't go away, and she doesn't even speak English!"; the marching band and the Villagers waving placards; the motto I live my life by (Number 6: "Far be it from me to carp"); and the great ending with the Rover cave. There are those who say that this episode does not provide every civilized amenity...and they are wrong!
