The political correctness of this show is maddening!
I just saw the "death penalty is bad" episode where Voyager is transporting the putty faced prisoners sentenced to death. I'm used to having social issues discussed in Star Trek, but their handling of this was extremely heavy handed, even by Star Trek standards. This wasn't an episode which happened to subtly touch on the death penalty; this was simply an hour of discussing how Baaad the death penalty is. How many times and in how many different ways did this episode have to preach against the death penalty, from Janeway's moralizing, to statements of how unfair the death penalty was applied, to comparisons of the prisoners to persecuted minorities, to jawboning about "rehabilitation", to commentaries about unfairness of the legal system, to the sensitivies of the prisoner who 7 becomes buddies with.
ENOUGH! I felt like I was watching a PBS documentary. I think even opponents of the death penalty would've been annoyed by this episode's preachiness.

there is only one star trek. we didn't need a next generation, deep space nine, and certainly not a voyager and enterprise. think of all that wasted film. take care.

The Anti-HMO one was cruddy too. Enterprise was bad about it as well. Its simply the Beebs trying too hard to prove that they can be as insightfull and wise as Roddenberry. Ever notice ALL the preachy episodes were written by them? Remember the TOS episode with the Cherons? Sure Bele and Lokar looked silly, but that was pretty much the point, to prove how silly it was to discriminate based on skin color. And the presense of the Klingons was to match the cold war between us and Russia. And the relationship between the Federation and the Klingons changed when our relations improved with them. Dr Berman and TVs Brannon are desperate to go down in the annals of Trek history as having the vision Gene had. But it never worked. Thats probably why theyre not pating attention to his continuity very well. They want to replace it with thiers. These PSAs are just to stroke their own pretentoius egos
