I think that it's an interesting idea about a young kirk and spock, but i don't think Matt DAmon is the right choice for kirk i think they should have an unknown that looks like a young Shatner so people won't be distracted by Damon and just watch the movie. Now for spock i think Josh HArtnett would be a good candidate because he's Nimoy's son and he looks like his father but like i said no distractions from the movie. But honestly i don't think that we should go back i think that it should possibly move on with Star Trek TNG and further beyond that. Like show Riker as Captain of the starship Titan. Or at least to end it all have the borg come back with a whole fleet and have one last battle and have species from voyager who know how to defeat the borg help starfleet and have the biggest battle ever. That would be really cool to see picard fight one last time with those guys.

Maybe Paramount could do what Glen Larson planned to do with the original and only Galactica and release a series of Trek television movies or a mini-series based on some of the few fantastic Trek novels that are out there. The only problem would be that probably all of the crews in the Trek universe would probably have to be re-cast with new actors. And I'm with the group who thinks it should be unknowns. I believe that's the only way people watching it won't be sitting there thinking "Brian from Wings just doesn't make a very good Mr. Spock. Pee Wee Herman, Cmdr. Data?" Take Care.

Id rather see a movie on Robert April's first mission with the 1701. Preferably one that disavows Enterprise ever happening

I got one word for that movie idea: lame lame lame! Let's got with the war between the Klingons and the Romulans instead. At least that movie will have a decent plot!

So I guess the idea of a young Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy is a done deal then, right? Personally, I think that's a shame. Just one more way to completely contradict information given in other episodes, and it will happen. I like Rand's and Porthos' idea of showing Star Trek after TNG, maybe with the Federation witnessing a final, all-out war between the Klingons and Romulans, and wondering which side (if any) they should take. On TNG, the Klingons were allies of the Federation, but a Klingon victory would upset the status quo of the galaxy, and might be detrimental to Starfleet. Just to make the producers happy, they could even show a young Spock and Kirk, in flashback, a la the classic episode of "The Menagerie" which first showed Captain Pike. Of course, we'd probably end up getting saddled with an elderly Riker in command of Starfleet, not knowing which ship to attack or which woman to bone. Have a good one.

Well, considering that the Earthbound characters would have to be in their early twenties, the cast would have to be culled from that age group...the only ones that could fill the bill would have to be the kids from "The OC" or any one of those teen-oriented television shows or movies. The only one of the characters that could have a little "age" on him would be "Spock." So, I'll suggest Jake Gyllenhaal for the role.

The mysterious alien entity known as 'Q' travels through time and space, and captures Captains Pike, Kirk, Picard, and Archer, locks them all in a room, gets them drunk and mad, gets them fighting, and sees which one ends up standing at the end. Kirk, of course, throws a lot of punches and kicks a lot of butt, but is constantly distracted by girls who look in the window; Picard plays the flute in attempt to lull his opponents to sleep, and when that doesn't work, he ends up getting stabbed through the heart--a mere flesh wound; and poor Pike is badly injured and ends up in a futuristic wheelchair. (But at least he gets to go back to that hot, green, dancing chick on Talos IV.) Only Archer is left standing at the end--everytime someone punches him, they cut their fists on his wooden acting. Live long and fester, everyone.

A great abyss at the center of the galaxy is eating star systems and expanding. Gray Lensman Kimball Kinnison must find a weapon to stop the menace. Unfortuantely, in the Gray Lensman's universe all super weapons have been discovered and used. Kinnison casts his mind adrift to find a solution...it travels through many dimensions in time and space. And finds the mind of Gene Roddenberry! Using the seeds of 'madness' found in Roddenberry's mind, Kinnison gathers his powers and pushes matter together to create a new universe, the Star Trek Universe!
In a flash, the universe of the Lensman disappears and Star Trek is born!
So go the lives of our days.

Here's the long and the short of it: Ron Moore has ruined science fiction for years to come. All the modern audience wants is sex and violence and boring political intrigue. So we'll give it to them. Yes, I think an all gay Trek movie, with an all lesbian crew might be just the shot in the arm...or elsewhere that the franchise needs. I will play Coach Rand, the only male onboard and the ship's physical education coach who will help the crew stay in top condition. The new uniforms will be spandex and made by the guy who designed Erin Gray's for Buck Rogers. In the series' pilot, the newly commissioned USS DEGENERESS will be sent to planet Orgasma 69 to negotiate a peace treaty between the warring Amazon tribes who consider it barbaric to wear clothing. In the thrilling finale the ship's Captain, Janice "Husker" Kirk will fight the Amazon Queen XenaOdonnell. Obeying the Prime Directive, all the crew will beam down to the planet in the nude. Okay, someone call Paramount and let's get the ball rolling. Take Care...

porthos, don't forget the mooreron. personally, i blame moore for everything bad in the world. he was probably the one who told chrysler to put four doors on the new charger. by the way, what do you think about wrestling on the sci-fi channel? according tp bonnie hammer, sci-fi fans have the same mentality as wrestling fans. take care.

Rand, bad news for Kirk and Spock in the new Star Trek movie: their shuttle accidentally crash-lands on Brokeback Planet. Ouch. Have a good day, everyone, and don't drop the tricorder.

bang, i got the rand monicker while trying to come up with names for my own sci-fi novels. one day i was sitting in the car( before i got weird and stopped leaving the house) while a work crew was smearing hot tar on the road. i was thinking about my lead character, still nameless, when this funny looking, kind of pint sized steam roller pulled out in front of me. on the back it said, INGERSOLL-RAND. and the rest, as they say, is history. ALSO, i have figured out how to save star trek. get ready, catch your breath: STAR TREK: THE MUSICAL! broadway's own tommy tune and andrew lloyd webber will co-direct and elton john and bernie taupin will write the score. songs will include "space cowboy from iowa," "it's great to have pointy ears." "it isn't easy being gay...even in the twenty third century." "ceti eel squeal," "i enjoy being a girl feregni," "pon-farr blues," "just another lonely night on rigel, or i miss you spock," and many, many more. by the way, just to make it stand out from all the trek that's come before, we'll have an all jewish cast dressed in three piece suits and carrying .44 smith and wesson automatics rather than phasers. the whole thing will be performed in yiddish. just think about it, i will be the man who saved trek. take care. or how about an all gay cast? think of it, nathan lane as kirk. ron regan jr. as spock. jim j. bullock as mccoy. once more, take care.

I totally agree with Rand. The Star Trek franchise needs a rest. I still love the original series, and I also liked The Next Generation (although the episodes dealing with Troi's mom were downright stupid). The only thing I know about Enterprise is that Jolene Blalock looked pretty good posing in FHM magazine. (In all fairness to the series, I was usually working when it was on, but I heard it was disappointment, from the opening "song" to Scott Bakula's performance.) But if there is going to be a new Trek movie, they should go all out like it's the last movie to be made for a long while--which it should be. How about a storyline where time goes awry once--ONCE AGAIN--and EVERYTHING from the past and future begins appearing on Earth, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. William Shatner and Patrick Stewart could reprise their roles together, Scott Bakula could make an appearance and still appear constipated, Commander Kor and the Klingons show up and take on dinosaurs, Romulans face off against Nazi soldiers, Leonard Nimoy seeks out Jolene Blalock because it's been seven years, Sisko and Deep Space Nine get too close to the Earth and get pulled into its orbit, and are attacked by WWI bi-planes, Riker gets the hots for Yeomand Rand (not from Alabama), Captain Christopher Pike gets to watch that green-skinned girl do her little dance once again from "The Menagerie," and meanwhile, the starship Voyager STILL remains lost. Have a good day, everyone.

like i've said before, i honestly feel there is just too much trek product out there, and, unfortunately, paramount isn't too picky about quality. it would be a safe guess to say my local book store has at least two hundred different trek titles at the moment, two whole shelves' worth. the only ones that i think would make a good mini series are those in the new series about khan and the crew of the botany bay. as for the movies, the first three or four were a big deal because there hadn't been any new trek in about ten years. unfortunately, the quality of the later movies kept getting worse with each new one and hit an all time low when the next generation came to the screen. and consider this, star trek iv was the only film in the series to earn more than a hundred million in box office. none were that successful. to pay shatner and nimoy's demanded ten million per movie paramount continually had to skimp and cut corners in the production expenses. the same is true with the later series. tng was okay, ds-9 was a little worse, then voyager and finally enterprise. and each had a lower production budget than its preedecessor. if you don't put quality ingredients in you will not get a quality product. whatever paramount does next it had better be pretty frickin SPECTACULAR and made with care and respect for the fans or trek will really be good and dead. in my opinion, at the moment there is simply no good sci fi being made. take care.

If they do an acadamy movie I will quit Trek!
They have not been making quality movies in trek, been trying to use sex and violence to sell trek to a larger audiance, has POed a lot of fans.
Hey make a good quality film with good plot and good acting, advertise it and people will come and see it not just once but several Times, I went to 1st contact 4 times and bought it the day it was released.
Trek does NOT need a rest, just needs to be made better, season 4 of enterprise was proof of that, it just had the bad luck of being on a channel that did not promote it and no longer wanted scifi programming any more and UPN changed there programming format to young women.

i'm a life long star trek fan-THE ORIGINAL SERIES ONLY-but i think it's FAR too early after the mediocre performance of enterprise and nemesis to even be talking about another movie or series. the market is saturated with trek after more than twenty years on tv and in the theaters without a break. the first thing paramount needs is new creative talent with an original spin on trek. CERTAINLY NOT A RE-IMAGINING LIKE THE ONE THAT DESTROYED BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, but a series faithful to the original show's spirit and created by people who are genuine fans of trek and understand what made it so wonderful. personally, i would love to see new actors playing kirk and the rest or the original cast of characters. it's worked for james bond and dr. who. take care.
