In the "Invasion of Time" Doctor Who had to create a D-Mat gun to defeat the sontarans (it was never clear why regular stasers wouldn't suffice). This was supposed to be the most powerful weapon in the galaxy whose secret was tightly guarded.. And yet in "Robot", on 20th century Earth, UNIT developed the identical weapon! The Robot captured it and used it to zap a number of buildings and vehicles. If the D-Mat gun was so special, how come even UNIT had one?
