TV-Commentary - Doctor Who
Why are Time Lords pushovers?
Several times now Gallifrey has been invaded by aliens, and the Time Lords' response has been rather wimpy at best. If the Time Lords are so powerful, why are they such pushovers? It seems a few Sontarans with guns can take over the whole lot.

Do you think that Doctor Who, by cooperatin with the Vardens, was trying to kick the Time Lords in the butt to get them out of their complacency? Do you think the Time Lords should conscript a professional army to guard them, rather than those dumb white robed guys in the red football helmets?

They aren't really pushovers. They want to make peace. Like the way Dr.Who treats Rose. Or how she just wanted a father and he blamed her. That is my opinion.

Kindof the point of the Time Lords is that despite their huge technology they have decided to remain neutral. I think there was one story in which it was said that they once helped a low tech world become high tech, but then that world destroyed itself in a war waged with the new technology, and this was what convinced them to become neutral. They do have several layers of powerful force fields around Gallifrey, which makes them indestructible. The Sontarans were only able to invade because the Doctor had turned off the force fields. Of course in the new series we have learned that Gallifrey has been completely destroyed, apparently by the Daleks. If the Time Lords were not neutral, then the Doctor would not be a renegade, which has always been a central idea of the series. The Doctor would probably agree with you that the Time Lords are pretty wimpy.
