Best episode, the sadly missing Evil of the Daleks, worst- no doubt it has to be Doomsday, we were promised a massive and we got an awfully put together story and an ending as bad as Series 1 of the new series. Why is Doomsday getting so much praise????

Come on, the finale of the new season 1 with the Dalek emperor was pretty good. The fact that the Doctor had trouble with moral issues... Quite a lot of tension there.

Firstly, I will answer your questions, Paradox (as best I can). The Cybermen never teamed up with the Daleks in any TV episode. The only episode where they both appeared was in The Five Doctors, where a lone Dalek temporarily threatened the first Doctor and Susan. The Cybermen played a much larger part, coming across much better in this story than the Dalek. As to your second question - A Time Lord has twelve regenerations (see The Keeper of Traken), which does not include his first body (ie that of William Hartnell). This means that there are able to be thirteen Doctors, and David Tennant is the tenth.
Secondly, I would like to correct Rob Bradley. The remaining episodes of The Evil of the Daleks are NOT necessarily still in existence, but yes, it is possible. The fact that some of the episodes (the last being The Dalek Masterplan Episode 2: Day of Armageddon) have been found does not mean that the others are still in existence, or for that matter, that they are in restorable condition. We can always hope, but there is no guarantee that those episodes are still out there. Also, keep in mind how long it often takes for these episodes to show up. The Dalek Masterplan Episode 2: Day of Armageddon was not found until approximately thirty years after it was lost.
Finally, the actual subject of the message board. Tom Baker makes both of his episodes very enjoyable. The best would be either one of his stories or one starring William Hartnell. The original (The Daleks) is a good story, but I think that Genesis of the Daleks just edges it out. If you can find Dr Who and the Daleks, the movie starring Peter Cushing and Roy Castle, it is well worth watching (it is actually a big screen adaptation of The Daleks), but its sequel, Dalek Invasion 2150 is not as good. The new episodes starring Christopher Eccleston are okay, but the idea of a Dalek becoming "humanised" (in the story Dalek) becomes pathetic when the viewer starts to pity the Daleks, as if some other race is more hated throughout science fiction.

Personally i think Destiny of the daleks was quite a bad episode in my veiw i mean the climax was rubbish and you would think if the dalek depended so much on getting davros back they would of had skaro a bit more heavily guarded for example they would of blown up that movellen ship before it could even get into the planets atmosphere.
But my favorite episode of all time is death to the daleks. Its just because its the only time you really see the daleks at their weakest and the fact they get by this and become supream once more just by using machine guns is quite cool.

Hi, couple of questions a) has there been any episodes/books that anyone knows that the Daleks/Cybermen have teamed up/fought against each other (pretty new to the series myself so not sure) and b) I understand that a Time Lord has Ten regenerations, is this true? and if so I wonder how they are going to get that one into the new series if the current actor wants to leave. thanks

Part one of The Genesis of the Daleks is the best. It has mystery and is full of suspense. They come from the same thing. Like the Doctor we know that he is going to fight the Daleks (thanks to the timelords) but neither Harry or Sarah do. You spend the whole of the episode waiting for the Daleks and when one arrives on screen it does not disappoint. As Davros says 'Now it begins'

Why do people keep saying that 'The Evil of the Daleks' no longer exists? How do they know it doesn't, just because the BBC do not have a copy of the full story? Episode 2 exists, we know that! And missing episodes do turn up from time to time, so obviously they do exist or they couldn't be found. Never give up hope!

I would vote for the latest Dalek porn movie. But the humorless director of the Terry Nation estate doesnt like it!
Estate director Tim Hancock said: “The reason the Daleks are still the most sinister thing in the universe is because they do not make things like porn. The estate of creator Terry Nation intends to sue.
“They weren't ever intended to be sexual creatures. It's simple, Daleks do not do porn.”

Now, there are many stories to pick here. I would pick Evil of the daleks, but I have only seen episode 2 through the 'Lost in time' set but it is a classic full story, but as the full story longer exists it has to be 'Genesis of the daleks' it has everything that people want. Daleks, the introduction of Davros, and a war between the Thals. Who were fighting in the first dalek appearence and the Pertwee story 'Planet of the daleks' which I have just started watching and am hoping it is as good as the first 6 parts that came before in 'Frontier in Space'. Genesis has a great story, action and deception all a fan needs. Go and find it now!

Best Dalek episode was Genesis of the Daleks (in fact, I think it's one of the best episodes of any science-fiction show). A close second is the original Terry Nation, "The Daleks," where we meet them on Skaro. I loved it.

The best Darlek episode is in the latest series (which probably hasn't been shown stateside yet) It's tense, well written and the screen crackles with tension and is widely regarded as the best episode of all time. But who are we kidding? As soon as the new series is aired you'll say 'why is the new series so retarded' or something similar.

This is a difficult one to pick. I have just finished watching The Planet of Daleks again and that was very good adventure. But the best episode to feature the Daleks was episode 1 of The Genisus of the Daleks. This had everthing, it was superb set up with brillant cliffhanger.

Destiny of the Daleks????? Really? I find this to be one of the weakest. The Daleks are not "creatures of logic." Who was this script originally written for? The Cyberman? The Vulcans?
Best? Let's see, Dalek Invasion of Earth, Evil of, Day of, Genesis of, Resurrection of. For best, i'll take Day followed by Resurrection.

I consider the final episode of Evil of the Daleks (episode 7)to be the greatest Dalek episode of all time. I realize that it no longer exists; lamentably, it is one of the many Patrick Troughton episodes that were destroyed by the BBC. However, I saw Evil of the Daleks when it was originally broadcast, either in 1967 or the following year when the complete story was repeated. Episode 7 features the climactic Dalek civil war on Skaro, in which Daleks innoculated with the Human Factor rebel against Daleks loyal to the Emperor. The Emperor is a massive stationary unit, replete with flashing lights and life-supporting tubes. With a booming, sinister voice, the Emperor plots to use the Doctor to spread the Dalek factor throughout "the whole history of the Universe."
The Emperor is ultimately destroyed in the crossfire of the battling Daleks. I still remember the sounds of the Daleks as they exterminated each other--a cacaophony of Dalek attack cries and frenzied death throes. As Dalek domes exploded, their shells spun furiously while sud-like liquid oozed out of their gaping tops. Great stuff!
I think the Daleks were at their ingenious, malevolent best in Evil of the Daleks. In fact, I don't think they've ever been better portrayed.
If a Doctor Who movie is ever made, I think that Evil of the Daleks would be admirably suited for adaptation to the big screen.
Obey the Daleks! Obey!!
PS: I would have been 5 or 6 years old when I saw Evil of the Daleks. However, I've heard the audio tapes of the story and seen some surviving clips of it (on the BBC's Dr. Who website) and I can honestly say that it has stood the test of time. How very appropriate!!

Personally, I like the original 'The Daleks' and its immediate follow up 'Dalek Invasion of Earth'. I've also got a soft spot for 'Remembrance' even though the plot has some dodgy moments and 'Genesis' has some classic set pieces and dialouge. The worst - either 'The Chase', 'Planet' or 'Destiny'.
