(click here) TV-Commentary - Doctor Who The problem with K9 K9 was a GREAT companion. He had a cute voice, a funny personality, was always correcting the Doctor, was great at chess, and was a good hunting dog. The problem with K9? The blaster on the end of his nose. K9 was a walking gun. Since most problems in Doctor Who could be easily solved on the barrel of a gun, using K9 too much would tend to end episodes too easily. The Doctor would never get captured, never have to escape, and could defeat his enemies easily. That's why in a good many episodes K9 was left back at the Tardis, either under repair or just minding the fort. Ironically, the Doctor would've had the same "problem" if he had simply carried a laser around for his own personal protection. But he preferred exotic clothing to defensive weapons. However I would have loved to see him active in "Destany of the Daleks" I would have love to have seen what he would have done to the daleks.        posts on 4/25/2006 4:23:55 PM apart from having a ray gun for a nose k9s main flaw was that he or it could only travel on smooth servives. and his or its battery pack would not allow constant use of the gun anyway isaw an episode where k9 could not fire until recharged give the sed baddy ample time to escape        Chris posts on 2/15/2006 5:32:41 PM It has always been my dream to have K9 of my own. The Doctor was a pacifist, he said that did not like guns preferred to use his brains to outwit the bad guys. A good example was the Robot's of Death (Season 14). You know on the sand miner and the mad scientist Taren Capel turns the robots loose on the crew killing them one at a time. In the closing episode the Doctor uses Helium to alter Capel voice and so his robots are now unable to recognise his voice command and so kill him instead of the Doctor. So while it was OK for Leela to use a Gun after all she was a hunter and a savage and therefore her natural instinct was to attack with whatever wepon was at hand. K9 should have been beaten the bad guy with Logic not resort to the blaster in his nose in contradiction of the gun less Doctor.        The commentator gethfr posts on 2/12/2005 9:02:33 PM His overusfullness must be why he was given his own series.
