TV-Commentary - Deep Space Nine
The very best episodes of Deep Space Nine

A tie--between "Thru the Looking Glass", the one where Garak goes crazy and stalks the crew one by one, and "Paradise", the one where Sisco gets put in the box.

"Thru the Looking Glass" was a great episode because we got to see the cast members playing very different roles. Garak, the meek tailor, became the commanding soldier on DS9; Kira becomes a sexed crazed cat woman; Sisco grins and becomes consumed with his own pleasure; Bashir becomes scruffy, Odo becomes a prison warden, etc.

The second top episode of DS9 was the one where O'Brien, Garak, and some expendables go to the abandoned Cardassian station to salvage its components. Garak touches some chemical which makes him become a homicidal maniac, and starts killing the crew one by one, leaving Chief O'Brien for last. Normally, you'd think pitting Garak against Chief O'Brien would be like pitting a bulldog against a pussycat, but Chief O'Brien realistically defeats Garak by using his knowledge of electronics and gadgetry. Of course, after Garak recovers he's not held responsible for all the Starfleet crewmembers he's killed--after all, they're all yellow shirts.

And the other very best episode was "Paradise", the one where Sisco and O'Brien beam down to the planet of the crunchy granola types who don't have or use electricity. When Sisco refuses to become an agrarian reformer, and turns down a pass from an attractive Chinese woman, the matriarch leader has him put in a box. Later, when Sisco is let out, he shows his defiance by having himself put in the box again! His wimpy response (Kirk, Picard, and even Janeway would never volunteer to be locked in a box) makes this the funniest episode in the series. It also has some great lines, such as when Sisco says accusingly to the granola queen matriarch, "Did you ask her to make love to me!"

#1: The Visitor #2: In the Pale Moonlight #3: The Way of the Warrior #4: Sacrifice of Angels #5: Homefront/Paradise Lost The best acting job in any Trek episode ever: Avery Brooks in "In the Pale Moonlight". You really feel his moral dilema throughout the episode.

The best episodes by far: "The Visitor," "Far Beyond The Stars," "For The Uniform," "Favor The Bold," "Sacrifice of Angels," "Children of Time," "Waltz," and "Empok Nor."

Hands Down, the Best episode on DS9 is The Visitor. It shows what DS9 was at its best, a relationship driven series. And the best of the relationships was the love between a father and his son. This is so deeply moving that you cannot watch without being moved to tears.

ds9 is not very good (i would actually rather watch t.j. hooker myself) but if I had to choose it would be the ones with the bad nana visitor in them (in her raunchy pvc catsuit ;-))

That was "In the Pale Moonlight" from season 6. I just saw it for the first time last night!

I wish I could remember the name-- Sisko records a personal log about conspiring to bring the Romulans into the war against the Dominion. Great intrige.

The best episodes of DS9 were the ones that featured "Worf" as the central focus, the ones that had Louise Fletcher and Marc Alaimo, and Jeffrey Combs' swarmingly sinister "Weyoun". As far as ones that had the main cast members, I love "Duet," and "The Visitor," along with the one about the dead woman whose message was picked up several years after her demise. 'Can't think of the title. I also found the death of Dax episode a standout. Most of the episodes from the last year were outstanding. And "T.J. Hooker" can't hold a candle to DS9, even if it featured "Capt. Kirk" and "Sammie Jo".

Does anyone actually think that T. J. Hooker was a better show that then DS9? Only if you're in an "alternate universe". There are many great episodes of DS9, including the finale, "What You Leave Behind", "The Visitor", and "His Way". Some people who put messages here seem to hate the show. Why do they bother coming to this website? If you want something you really should hate, try anything that has "Lord of the Rings" attached to the name.
