It is completely derivative. I counted Indiana Jones, Matrix, Jurassic Park, Interview with the Vampire, X Men and Harry Potter as minor influences, and that's without the obvious ones of Dracula etc. The only way a movie can get away with being this derivative is if it is totally camp, and this just doesn't make the grade on that score. Kate Beckinsale was apparently wearing a very tight corset throughout, which was the only thing that could account for her strange shape, although God knows how she managed to breathe, but Richard Roxborough looked like he was having some fun at least. David Wenham was really the only redeeming feature, (and was, I admit, the only reason I watched this movie), and as my daughter pointed out, it looked like he'd used his cloak from Lord of the Rings, so maybe they were trying to save money on the costumes! I can't for the life of me think why he took part in this mess. Oh yes! Of course! Money!
