(click here) TV-Commentary - Deep Space Nine Which character is most gay--Garak, Kira, Dax, or Bashir? Star Trek has had many ambiguously bisexual characters going back to Next Generation when Riker did it with the neuter girl. But no Star Trek series has more ambiguously gay characters than Deep Space Nine--Garak, Kira, Dax, and possibly Bashir. Don't believe it? Have a look at the evidence: Garak: Garak is quite likely to be gay. First of all he's a tailor--very artistic. When he talks to Dr. Bashir, he always puts his face very close to Bashir and stares intently at him. He also is fond of lunch dates with the Doctor. Kira: While Kira has had relationships with men, everything about her screams "Lesbian!". She walks heel first like a man, wears tight pant legs like a man, has a buzz cut like a man, and barks orders in a very masculine way. The Kira in the alternate DS9 universe is clearly bisexual, having dalliances with women as well as men. Dax: Dax is also clearly bisexual. Remember the episode where she started making out with her ex-wife? Nothing could be clearer when you see her passionately kissing her former loved one. Plus Sisco always calls her "old man", harkening back to the time when she used to be a man. Dax is a woman who used to be a man--e.g. a postoperative transexual. Whether that makes her a lesbian man or a gay woman isn't entirely clear. Bashir: Now we turn to the gentle, soft spoken Doctor. Notice the way gay Garak zeroed in on him? Do you think it Bashir had a large blip on Garak's gaydar? And what about the episode where Bashir tells O'Brien, when they were trapped inside Sloan's mind, that he loved him?
