I just love her writing i own most of her herald books, My mom and i are collecting more of them. My favorites so far have been the Queens own and the last herald mage. Queens own got me started with her i've read ALOT of her books though.

Oh thank goodness there's a 4th for Half-blood Chronicles. I didn't feel satisfied with the ending of the 3rd. Does anyone know when it is expected to come out?

Well, just got my copy of the 3rd book in the Obsidian Trilogy in the mail today from Amazon.
Now, if only I wasn't so busy at work and with overtime so that I could read it..

Lackey is one of the best fantasy authors of all time. I expect this third book to hit us hard with some classic lackey prodigousness!

The third book should be published in July 2006.
Its title might change by the time of publication. Sometimes books get cancelled or postponed by several years.

What is it with these message boards-- if there's only one set of comments for the whole body of work, why do they repeat this set of comments for each book, regardless of whether that book is actually mentioned in the comments?
By the way, any author who has to italicize at least once per paragraph to make a point needs to work on her writing skills.

I went into the local Chapters store a few days ago, and inquired on their system about this book. It had a slightly different title, I can't recall exactly at the moment, and it wasn't due out until AUGUST of 2006. Needless to say, that rather depressed me! Perhaps it wasn't the same book, that's the only slim shred of hope that I am hanging on to.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books. I can hardly wait to read the third. I feel as if I know the characters personally. And I can't wait to see what happens next.

The Fall Of Darkness
Volume Three Obsidian Mountain
Mercedes Lackey & James Mallory
New fantasy with the well-known author of the MERLIN series, James Mallory
In the captivating world conjured by veteran Lackey (Exile's Honor) and classical scholar Mallory (Merlin: The Old Magic) in this third of a high fantasy trilogy.
Yes, this book is being worked on. Look for it late in 2005/early 2006.
Plans are afoot for another trilogy set in the same world.

Well, I believe the release is supposed to be this july [Elvenbred], but, as previously stated on this message board, with Andre Norton's passing, this is thrown into question. What an annoying situation.

I have enjoyed the Heralds of Valdemar (all of them) and I look foward to the release of Fall of Darkness, book three of the Obsidian Trilogy. Mrs. Lackey introduces original thoughts on the 'running of a country.' The ways in which she assures the reader that the characters and monarchs of her books are 'good' (such as Companions and Wild Magic) are truly inspirational.
