I've got an old copy here somewhere. I read it as a boy and from time to time I find myself going back and reading it again. I've probably read it 4 or 5 times. I wish they'd make it into a movie, I think it would be great.

I just downloaded a version of Star Conquerors and I am ready to begin reading it for the first time since I was a little boy. I picked it up off the library shelf the same day they received it and it has been one of the best stories I have found to read. I look forward to reading it all over again. Thanks Ben for allowing me to share in the joy of this story again.

the Arena star trek episode had the hero battling a lizard creature and a omnipotent creature at the end saying that we had potential.

well Doc,
you have been asked not to do by the man that gave it to you free... in honor is that not good enough?

Notes on a few recents posts:
I don't see any relationship to the Arena episode and Star Trek. Am I missing something?
As far as breaking copyright if the text is edited, that is not true. When one publishes an edited version of original text, one merely copyrights the new version. You might want to have Mr Bova check out his facts.
I still find this novel to be the best thing the author ever wrote. Unlike his later novels it is not padded to the max.
Cheers,
Doc

anyone ever wonder how much star trek seems to borrow from this novel. especially the "arena" episode.

I just finished reading the Star Conquerors for the first time since the 1960s. It took a while longer since I could not dedicate the time to reading as I could when I was young. Although I could see why Ben Bova would be hesitant to reissue, it still was an enjoyable read, just as I enjoyed rereading the Tarzan series, and other novels of my youth. That is probably the reason why used copies of it sale for so much on ebay and book vendors. One thing that came to mind was that it still had a good premise even after all these years, but the ending was rushed. Now that Mr. Bova is a seasoned and experienced writer, he should revisit the plot and flesh it out to maybe a trilogy. Just an idea.
Thanks again for making it available after all these years.

Thanks, Doc. If you put spaces between the w w w and before and after the periods in a web address, you can fool the website and the forum will show it. For example, w w w . benbova . net. The same trick will work for email addresses.

I can see how some were confused I about the directions for finding the download. Especially with the link at the top of the posts that looked like a link to the Ben Bova site. But the man fault likes with the forum itself for not allowing web references.
The other problem is that there are numerous typos. I had decided, I would go ahead and edit the copy as I read it, but found to my dismay that it is a locked PDF, so one can not edit. To date I have noted over 100 errors. Fortunately it does not really affect the reading of he book because most people can just fill in the blanks.

Thank you everybody for your contribution in getting this book available for all. What a wonderful treat. It is very gracious of Mr Bova to provide it the way he did. I shall be sure to thank him, also. Again, thanks all.

(Sigh)... LLoyd, one more time... at the top of THIS page is a link to the Ben Bova Main Page. I thought THAT was THE Ben Bova website. I couldn't find the link you were trying to tell me about on THAT page. It all became clear when I discovered there was ANOTHER Ben Bova main page. Is it all clear now? Let's not wonder about what I might or might not have done, or what you would have thought someone in the same circumstances would have done, shall we? Just acknowledge that there was some degree of confusion present, and that some of the advice I was getting from some posters was about as clear as mud.

Well I'd have thought that someone so hot for the book would have looked up the author before posting all this.

I do want to say a belated Thank You to Ben B. and everyone else who made the electronic release of SC without fee possible. SC is my favorite book read as a teenager and I can easily say that it inspired me to read other Sci-Fi authors, a pasttime that continues to this day. Reading Sci-Fi as avidly as I did helped me develop the vocabulary and grammar skills I have, more so than any school English class I ever sat through. Again, my thanks to Mr. B. and his fellow authors for the positive impact their work has had on my life.

If you check the review of Star Conquerors on Amazon, you'll get the exact website.

OUTSTANDING!! I AM VERY PLEASED!! I last read this book around 1960-62. This book fired my imagination like no other before it and I have been a live long fan ever since. I am glad I can share this with my daughters and new grandson.

Thanks for the advice, Lloyd. Useless, of course, but well intentioned, I'm sure. The web page is w w w . benbova . net. Replace the astericks with periods. And yes, I didn't know it existed. What's so surprising about that?

Tim;
Have you ever considered medication or may doing your own research?

The web page is benbova net. You need to replace the spaces with periods. (This board does not allow us to put in websites.
