The needle was an injection that kept her from passing out during the torture. If u read the details of all that it did, it's a no wonder she was always laying down in that cell.

the interrogator droid did more than just carry the needle, it was meant for all kinds of interrogation techniques, also remember this quote: "Her resistance to the mind probe is considerable. it will be some time before we can extract any information from her." the droid did many things, and liea was trained to be able to resist them also, Vader didn't know at this point that she was his daughter, he that padme died pregnant. also, he didn't sense her connection with the force because she didn't access it, as she didn't know how or that she had it.

The Interrogator 5000 was designed by Larry Flynt, and let's just say it did more than just give injections of truth serum. It also heckled you until you lost your temper and said nasty things to it and then it would turn the entire galaxy against you and sue you, acting like it was completely free of any wrongdoing itself. Take Care.

You've got it all wrong. The Droid with the needle wasn't for torture, it was for bribery. She could get her botox treatment if she talked and it was just taunting her.

The floating ball is used to make people fainted. Darth vader cant read her mind even he is a sith,if he can read people's mind he should know that the one he loved was in that planet so he won't detroyed it but he destroyed it.

Why have a ball to carry the needle? thats just the way the Empire operates. I mean, duh. It's called an INTERROGATOR DROID for a reason. Wouldnt it stand to reason it could do more than administer shots? Think, man. Think before you waste bandwidth on such moronic questions.

Leia had practiced methods of how to resist torture. So she had an advantage. The Imperial torture droid also had other torture methods not just a needle. That's why it was so big, it carried other stuff in it.

all vader had to do was put leia in the same room with an insurance salesman discussing polices until she broke down and told him everything he wanted to know. this just happened to me. take care.

Darth Vader was all about intimidation a stor trooper with a needle would not be as scary as "the ball of doom". plus I think it had some sort of EMP that gave people intant headaches and insanity

I think it was for effect. Leila was
stronger than the needle.

In Return of the Jedi, when Darth Vader discovered that Leia was Luke's twin sister, did he know it was Leia or did he think it was just someone else?

Why did they need the floating ball to carry the needle?
A floating ball would not be intrusive and would save valuable real estate on your average Star Destroyer or space station cell.
It certinainly adds the Abu Grave intimidation factor as well!
Perhaps the ball was being lifted by Vaders use of the Force, and the 'whirling' sound eminating from it was simply its power generator for injections and other torture functions.
That would make the Black Ball more menacing ideed!
And why couldn't Vader simply read her mind to get the information he wanted?
Perhaps Leia was stronger in the Force than her friends and enemies had suspected, and that she was able to hide her secrets down deep. Perhaps her diplomatic skills were honed enough so that even her knowledge of secret bases could not be recalled by herself at the moment.

I don't think Vader considered Leia his enemy before ANH because he didn't know she was part of the rebellion. That's why in ANH he called her a traitor because she was suppose to be part of the Imperial Senate. Plus Bail Organa pretended to side with the Empire since Revenge of the Sith.

OK some of you are right.
One: Leia and Vader are enemies
Two: Leia's mind was shield at the time.
Three: Vader never thouht he catch his daughter or hurt her without knowing he had her who is is daughter.

Darth Vader was desperate for much-needed information: he needed to know the whereabouts of the hidden Rebel base. He had Princess Leia in his custody. So, he had two options: either call up the floating "drug droid"...or call Dr. Jack Kervorkian.

Even though Vader was in possession of the Force, he suffered from the weakness of all men: Tunnel vision when confronted with an attractive woman.
