Warp drive polluting environment like cars do?
Next Generation was so pro-environment that you half expect to see a Sierra Club calendar in Picard's ready room and "paper-glass-phaser" recycling bins in the torpedo bays.

In one powerful episode of Next Generation, the show speaks out against the evils of car pollution. In "Forces of Nature" Captain Picard discovers, much to his sorrow, that the use of warp drive is weakening the fabric of space, or, to put it another way, polluting the environment.What is the show referring to? We don't have a problem with pollution caused by spaceships, of course, but we do have a problem caused by pollution from another form of vehicles: cars!
For many years cars used to spew toxic lead particles into the atmosphere. Even now, years after emission controls have been established and cars use unleaded gasoline, hazardous emissions from large numbers of cars (especially in cities that are in valleys, such as Los Angeles) greatly reduce air quality in major metropolitan areas. The show is saying that we still need to be watchful about the environmental harm done by cars, despite improvements that have been made in recent years.
