The Girl Who Was Death - irritating lack of ideas
Once again we see another episode showing a lack of ideas. #6 is in a fairy tale spy parody following a killer girl with false eyelashes to lead him to her gay/effeminite father. Watching false eyelashes girl play trick after trick on #6 was not very pleasant and her laughter was actually grating. Basically #6 was played the fool for most of the episode.

But even worse than that was the flimsy plot premise; that by listening to #6 tell a bedtime story to children that he would somehow reveal why he resigned. This is even more ridiculous than thinking that they can get #6 to crack by putting him in a western.

If the writers (McGoohan) had had any creativity left, they would have constructed an episode around a PLAUSIBLE attempt to break him. But all we got was a far-fetched and irritating episode.

i have just one question. what in the world was this show about? i am not the brightest guy in the world, admittedly, but i just don't get it. number six goes through all these confusing situations only to discover that he is number one, or number one is him. and what was the giant balloon all about? i understand the series was trying to be something different, AND IT FREAKING SUCEEDED, maybe to well for most fairly normal thinking people to get. was it an acid trip, or whatever junk the flower children weirdos in the sixties took?

After spending much of the series watching Number 6 get tortured in one way or another--while retaining his ironic sense of humor--I enjoyed the comic elements of this episode. He's masterful shushing the children and putting them to bed...and hey, why wouldn't Number 2 eavesdrop? They've always got Number 6 under surveillance--"How'd I sleep?" he asks the TV in "Dance of the Dead." At least watching Number 6 tell bedtime stories doesn't damage the tissue.
