Return to 2010 main page Movies-Commentary - 2010 Exactly why was 2010 a lame movie? There were three main reasons: 1) HAL was a murderer, and yet they were all buddy buddy with him. I know, the wimpy vegetarian types will say, "It wasn't HAL's fault, he was just programmed that way", but at the very least they should have put him down, like they do a wild animal that attacks a person. They certainly shouldn't be buddy buddy with him; what would Frank Pool's family think? 2) The political "You Americans must be buddies with the Soviet Union" message was rather loud and blatant, and, now that that dictatorship has been overthrown, is even more ridiculous. Do you think the makers of this film are now, in retrospect, embarrassed for pushing such a message? Probably not. 3) NOTHING HAPPENED. They went to Jupiter, looked around, and left. Which leads to my last point.... 4) They found out ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the monolith. ZERO! The Monolith snacked on a Rusky and zapped Jupiter. That was it. Dave Bowman has a cameo but says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about life as a soap bubble baby or what it was like traveling through all that vomit. So what was the point? It wasnt bad. The monolith is explained in 2061 and 3000. Only 3000 is supposed to be made into a movie because 2061 is really a dull dull book. Sometimes I really want do LSD and watch the end of 2001 just to see what Kubrick saw.
