There is skywalkers on that planet so they would think it's his half brothers kid... and when he does feel luke its when he has the force with him so he knows... as for leiha she doesn't have to the force so he doesn't feel her!!

obi-wan should have changed lukes last name, but not to portman, "luke potman" it makes him sound like a gay sailor. plus odi-wan changed his name, but why did he pick a boring name like "ben kenobi" come on george, you could have done better than that.

I was under the impression that Vader throught he didn't have any kids since he thought he killed her before childbirth. Sidious told him that he (Vader) killed Princess Armadillo.

The Galaxy didnt know Darth Vader's Home planet. Remember, no one knew Anakin turned to Darth Vader. The only ones who knew were the Jedi,Obi wan, Yoda, Mace, Padme, Sidiouse, and the Confederacy. And Darth Vader made sured that all who knew were wiped out. The jedi, Mace, Padme (unintentionally, but none the less), and the Confederacy. The only ones who knew after all that was Sidious, ObiWan, and Yoda. So hiding him on tatooine would be fine.

Anyone who wanted to know why Luke was there would probably also know that Owen Lars was (cough) Luke's father's mother's son. Therefore he would be classed as family, I think.

Qbi-Wan sent infant Luke to be with family. Would have been odd to have a skywalker raising a Portman.

Ok, Anakin was a great Starpilot when Obiwan and him were meeting (He destroyed the Droid Mothership), Luke was hidden on Tatooine because his family was there. Yoda thought it best he was raised like his father should have been. Yoda realizes he made a mistake training the Jedi Order. While the Sith evolved the Jedi didnt. He finally agreed with Qui Gon and to a certain degree with Count Dooku. Family and compassion for family is best. Thats why Luke becomes the greatest of all Jedi ever. R2D2 does remember where he is. Remember how he knew exactly where to go while looking for Obi Wan. C3po had his memory erased at the end of Episode 3. Im suprised Owen didnt remember him. But thats forgivable. It has been 20 years.

Well, and this is mostly from extended universe stuff, and also just my own understanding. The reason Vader can "feel" Luke from so far away is because at that point Luke is very in tune with the force. When a Jedi is nearby, Sith can see them in the force like a beacon of light.
Now someone will scream (probably without reading this paragraph) "WTFzors, howcome he couldn't feel Yoda from across the galaxy, clearly Yoda is the leetzor!!!"
Well, Dagobah is a planet enshrouded in darkside energy. i.e. The cave in which Luke has the vision of Vader. This darkside energy overwhelms Yoda's beacon and hides him from Palpatine and Vader.
Also, about not finding Luke or Leia, I took it as Vader thought they died with Padme, because Palpatine told him that he had killed Padme.
The one I don't understand is how they never found Ben, other than the fact that it is an outer rim planet and the Empire's hold there is shaky at best, but to think that Vader was never in the same system to sense his former master? HMMMMMMz

Outlaw is right. I've wondered about that too. Evidently Lucas forgot that Leia would give off Jedi vibes too since Luke, being the dude, is the one that matters.

hiding in plain sight perhaps, though a name change might have helped luke smith? Jones? if they had found him there ie if they bothered to look it wouldn't have mattered and maybe it was the sand sand gets everywhere remember
