Did Denethor commit child abuse?
We were all surprised, I think to read how Faramir got the short end of the stick at the hands of his Dad, Denethor II. When Faramir returned to court, Denethor bluntly told him that he'd rather that Faramir had died than Boromir, and then sent him out to fight again at the dangerous front lines at Osgiliath. Then, when Faramir came back wounded, Denethor tried to burn him to a crisp. What kind of a Dad is that?
When Gandalf rescued him, do you think he was acting like a child welfare agent taking a child out of an abusive home?

Have you guys replying ever heard of a little something (now it is a bit obscure, it may take a bit of time to properly get your head's around it) called humour?
Now it's when you take a topic (take any topic you want, it doesn't matter) and then you twist it around so that it still is about the same topic, but then if you do it correctly, it then becomes 'funny'.
Now if performed correctly and becomes 'funny' or 'humourous' then it makes people 'laugh' and generally feel good.
Now the lesson is finished you may correctly understand that the author of this topic was not being serious and actually insinuating that Denethor should be arrested by the authorities for child abuse, he was actually making an attempt at what we (and now you, since you are clued in) 'humour'
Now next time, you all want have to reply like twats and act all like what he was doing was some kind of big serious issue, and actually take things as being funny.

It was abuse no matter if Faramir was a child or not it's still abuse almost as bad as molesting/ rapeing him. I also think Boromir was abused too even though they don't show/tell about it. Think of all the pressure they both had! I think it's sick what Denethor did to his kids and I feel sorry for Boromir and Faramir!

Faramir was not a child. Welfare agents remove children from abusive parents. adults have to remove themselves from abusive situations. Denethor was driven mad by what he was seeing in a palantir. Sauron was manipulating what Denethor saw in the stone.

Yeah, it's a strange topic ^^
I think it's just because of the death of Finduilas. She died very few years after they married, I think I've read, and Faramir was only five years old then. Denethor was a king (not really, but no difference for this topic) and had to do other things than look after his son. And what do you think the families were like in Gondor? I guess it was a bit like in the middle-ages. Not that cruel maybe, but in the middle-ages they have given their sons to other families when they were only about ten years or so. All that along with the fact Denethor perhaps wouldn't have been a good father anyway...
And in reference of that thing with the burning and so on: I think thats the point when Denethor notices that his son means something to him and he thinks Faramir would die anyway, so he wants to die with him...
whatever, I'm not really interested in that ^^

first of all, Cosidering that faramir is not a child when this happens, no he did not. Faramir is perfectly capable of making up his own mind proven by the fact that he let's frodo leave with the ring. Secondly this is the worst topic for discussionthat i have ever read.
