Now, since robots aren't truly alive, isn't that like having sex with an egg beater or other animate object? And why was Asimov so obsessed with it? Do you think he was having trouble getting the attentions of attractive women and if so do you think he mated with some of his kitchen appliances? Click here to post a message        Eric Voorhies posts on 8/11/2005 4:26:46 AM I know nothing about Asimov's sex life, but during the years he wrote the books you mention, Asimov was married, and they were very happy together. For those who have not read Asimov, the mentions of sex with robots are generally vague and elliptical, not graphic. I think he wrote them in to reflect a fundamental point about the very humanlike robots in his stories. If you build a machine that duplicates a human being in virtually every way (including look and feel), there will almost certainly be people who like the robot better than they like actual people. The robot will follow orders, refrain from off-putting personal habits, et cetera. So it is not difficult to imagine that, given robots who are built to resemble humans almost perfectly, some people will think of them as animated, walking, talking, blow-up dolls.
